Manchester United marked their return to the Champions League with an impressive victory over Swiss Champions Basel.
Jose Mourinho’s team barely had to get out of second gear, with goals from Maroane Fellaini, Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford capping a decent performance at Old Trafford.
The only slight mark on the game was an injury to Paul Pogba in the first half, which saw the Frenchman replaced by Fellaini, who netted the first goal of the match.
Pogba looked to have an issue with his hamstring which could rule him out for some weeks, although Jose Mourinho mentioned after the game that he “won’t cry” about the injury to his star player:
“I haven’t spoken with the medical department, this is why we have a squad, we won’t cry about injuries,”
After the victory, United fans took to Twitter to express their delight at their clubs victory in their first Champions League match in a good while…
Another Mourinho Masterclass, fantastic work from the players
