Manchester United fans react to Lingard’s goalscoring performance

Jesse Lingard has not always been a favourite among the Manchester United following.

The midfielder came onto the scene in the 2014-15 season after developing his game during loan spells at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton and Derby County.

Despite being a regular in the senior squad at Old Trafford, the 24-year-old has struggled for consistency.

Last season under manager Jose Mourinho, the Warrington-born player started 18 Premier League matches and came off the bench in a further seven.

Lingard’s bit-part role has continued in the 2017-18 campaign as he has been named in the first XI just once in the league.

In that outing, the midfielder was on the losing side of a 2-1 scoreline against newly-promoted Huddersfield Town.

On Tuesday night, though, Lingard gave Mourinho something to think about by putting in an impressive display against Swansea City in the Carabao Cup.

As well as performing well in a free role, the England international scored both goals in a 2-0 triumph at the Liberty Stadium.

United fans took to Twitter to give their assessment of Lingard’s contribution.
