Manchester United have maintained their winning run in the Champions League by overcoming Benfica 2-0 at Old Trafford.

On Tuesday evening, Jose Mourinho's men did not put in the most memorable performance on home soil, but they got the job done.

The Red Devils could have won by a bigger scoreline had Anthony Martial not missed from the penalty spot in the first half.

A little bit of luck came United's way later in the match when goalkeeper Mile Svilar sent the ball into his own net.

Benfica came close to finding an equaliser, but it was not to be as the hosts eventually doubled their lead from the spot after Marcus Rashford was fouled in the box.

The talking point of the contest came when there seemed to be some confusion over who would take the spot-kick.

Romelu Lukaku and Ander Herrera hovered over the ball, but Daley Blind appeared to pull rank over the pair and converted from the spot.

After the match, Mourinho confirmed that he made the decision to give Blind the shot rather than his attacking star.

It has been six games since Lukaku last found the back of the net, and the striker has been in the headlines of late following Mourinho's public defence of the Belgian.

The forward's performance, as well as the penalty drama was discussed by fans on Twitter.
