Manchester United fans slam Van Gaal after Di Maria stars for PSG

Plenty of Manchester United supporters have taken aim at former manager Louis van Gaal for selling Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain following the Argentine’s scintillating performance in the Champions League.

The 29-year-old was part of a dominant PSG team that caused a huge upset by defeating Barcelona 4-0 in the first leg of their last-16 tie at Parc des Princes on Tuesday evening.

Di Maria scored twice before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation when substituted in the second half, while Julian Draxler and Edinson Cavani also added to the scoresheet.

Witnessing Di Maria’s dazzling display reminded a number of United fans that they had the winger in their ranks not that long ago, but they failed to keep hold of him.

Van Gaal, who spent two years at the Old Trafford helm before getting sacked last summer, signed Di Maria from Real Madrid in 2014, but the Argentine spent just one season with the Red Devils before joining PSG.

He managed three goals and 10 assists in 27 Premier League appearances during a spell where he played in various positions, and nabbed 10 goals and 18 assists in 29 Ligue 1 outings in his first season with the French giants.

Following his impressive showing against Barcelona, fans took the opportunity to point the finger at Van Gaal.
