Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is facing a ban from the Football Association after he was charged with violent conduct.
An incident between himself and West Ham United star Manuel Lanzini was caught on camera around the 80th minute of the Magpies’ 3-0 triumph at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The match officials at the time did not clock it, but since reviewing video footage, the governing body deems the offence bad enough to issue a charge of violent conduct.
Newcastle confirmed the news in a statement via their official website on Tuesday evening.
BREAKING: Aleksandar Mitrovic has been charged for an alleged act of violent conduct
— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) August 29, 2017
If found guilty by a three-man panel of former referees, then Mitrovic could be ordered to serve a three-match ban.
Many fans have been left unhappy with the news, and some have referred back to Harry Kane’s tackle on Florian Lejeune on the opening day of the season.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker ended up receiving a booking for the incident, meaning that it would not have been eligible for retrospective action.
Other Newcastle fans chose to criticise Mitrovic after learning the news.
Has Kane? Has Kachunga? Of course not

Obviously the target on his back just gets bigger, silly challenge and no need for it to have happened at all.
