Newcastle fans buzzing as Gayle makes matchday squad

If Newcastle United fans were not already in a good mood following their move up to the Championship summit, they are in even better spirits after learning that Dwight Gayle is fit to play this weekend.

The striker suffered a problem during his side’s 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on February 20, and as a result was left out of the last two games.

The Magpies drew 2-2 with Bristol City and defeated Brighton 2-1 in Gayle’s absence, but they look set to have him in their ranks when they take on Huddersfield on Saturday.

In today’s press conference, manager Rafael Benitez told the gathered media that Gayle is fit to feature.

It is not yet known whether the former Crystal Palace man, who has scored 20 goals in 24 league appearances, will be part of the starting lineup or named on the bench.

The Magpies currently have a two-point lead at the top of the table and are eight points above third-placed Huddersfield.

This crucial fixture could pull them away from the rest of the pack or put slight pressure on their shoulders.

Fans have expressed their delight in Gayle coming back into the fold and are debating on Twitter whether or not he should start from kickoff.
