According to Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle United are interested in signing Udinese goalkeeper Orestis Karnezis in this summer's transfer window.

Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez is believed to be desperate to sign a new goalkeeper this summer ahead of the start of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

The Magpies, who won the Championship title last season, were strongly linked with Argentine international Willy Caballero, who left Manchester City at the end of last season, but the experienced stopper ultimately joined Chelsea as the club's number two.

Reports of moves for Napoli's Pepe Reina and West Ham United's Adrian have quietened in recent weeks, meanwhile, and Karnezis is the latest name being linked with a move to newly-promoted Newcastle.

The 32-year-old is a Greek international of 42 caps, whilst he has made over 100 league appearances for Udinese since joining the Italian side from Granada in 2014.

It would be fair to say that the Newcastle supporters are unsure of the reported interest, however, with their manager said to want a goalkeeper with Premier League experience.
