According to reports in the Daily Mail, Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez’s future is in doubt following a series of transfer setbacks this summer.

The report says that the Spaniard had believed that he would sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham and Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, but the duo look set to join Swansea City and Chelsea respectively instead.

In addition, two more targets – Eliaquim Mangala and Fabian Delph – are on the verge of moves to Lyon and Stoke City.

Benitez is understood to be frustrated at the lack of progress in the transfer market as he looks to build a team that won’t be involved in a relegation battle in the Premier League next season.

Newcastle supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, but they were far from convinced that the story is true, with some believing it is trying to unsettle the fans.
