Newcastle fans rage after being leapfrogged by Brighton

Newcastle United have given Brighton & Hove Albion the upper hand in the Championship title race after a disappointing defeat away to play-off hopefuls Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

Goals from Tom Lees and Steven Fletcher gave the Owls a two goal lead and despite a late surge, Jonjo Shelvey’s goal wasn’t enough to secure a result as Rafa Benitez saw his side slip to a 2-1 defeat.

The result means that Brighton are now two points ahead of the Magpies, after a huge win away to Queens Park Rangers saw them pick up their third victory in six days on Friday night. There are now just five games remaining to overtake Brighton once again.

The good news for Newcastle is that automatic promotion is still all but guaranteed. They continue to hold a ten point lead over Huddersfield who lost away to Nottingham Forest earlier in the day.

Still, it’s not a result or performance that Newcastle fans were hoping to see. Supporters are growing increasingly tired of poor showings over the last few months.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all..
