Newcastle United midfielder Matt Ritchie will miss his side’s final two Championship fixtures after being handed a two-match ban by the FA for an incident in the 1-1 draw against Leeds United at St James’ Park earlier this month.

The Magpies players were unhappy after Chris Wood scored a 95th-minute equaliser for Garry Monk’s side, believing

that there was too much injury-time.

Ritchie is said to have used foul and abusive language towards the officials in the tunnel following the final whistle, and the Scotland international has accepted the FA misconduct charge.

The decision follows quickly in the footsteps of the club being raided and managing director Lee Charnley arrested as part of a tax fraud investigation by HMRC on Wednesday, and supporters have been left wondering what will happen next to overshadow the promotion back to the Premier League that they secured on Monday with a 4-1 win against Preston

North End.
