According to talkSPORT, Newcastle have joined the race to sign Montpellier midfielder Ryad Boudebouz, but face stiff competition from Lyon and Everton.

The Algerian has been the star man for Montpellier this campaign, contributing 11 goals and 9 assists to guide his club away from early season relegation trouble.

It is believed that £8.5 million would be enough to prize the 27-year-old away from the French club, a comparative bargain considering the excellent season that Boudebouz has had.

Swansea tried unsuccessfully to sign the midfielder in January and turned to Luciano Narsingh instead.

However, this summer, Boudebouz may get his dream move to the Premier League, with Newcastle reportedly interested. Lyon and Everton have also expressed their interest in signing the Algerian.

It seems that Boudebouz will likely choose the destination where he can be guaranteed the most minutes. Due to the generally high ability of the squad at Everton, Newcastle may be a more suitable home for the man who is coming off the back of his best ever season in professional football.

Newcastle fans took to Twitter to express their delight at a potential move for Boudebouz…
