Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden took to social media to criticise his own personal performance despite his team beating Swansea City 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, but Magpies fans were quick to stick up for their star.

Rafa Benitez’s side made it back-to-back Premier League victories and clean sheets with the win against the Swans, which added to their 3-0 success against West Ham United at St James’ Park last time out.

The two results have almost banished the memories of the consecutive defeats against Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town the Tyneside outfit started the campaign with.

Hayden has impressed alongside new boy Mikel Merino in the middle of the park in recent times but he picked up an eighth minute yellow card against Swansea when he clattered into Renato Sanches, before eventually being replaced by Mohamed Diame in the 69th minute.

Newcastle supporters were quick to give their response to Hayden’s tweet via social media, and while many told him not to beat himself up, others were quick to point out that he is "still better than Diame".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
