Newcastle United moved into sixth position in the English Premier League on Saturday with a hard-fought win against Crystal Palace at St James' Park.

The Magpies laboured for much of the game with Roy Hodgson's side a match for most of the ninety minutes. However, substitute Mikel Merino rose to head home the winner just four minutes from time to give the home supporters something to cheer about.

It wasn't a classic for the neutral with shots on target few and far between and the attacking lines of both teams failing to really impact on the game.

While Newcastle fans were of course happy with the result, they weren't particularly overjoyed with the performance and aimed most of their criticism at striker Joselu, who struggled before being subbed off for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

With just two goals so far this season, the summer signing has failed to win over fans of his new club and now there are calls for Mitrovic to start matches ahead of him.
