Newcastle United fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the future of goalkeeper Tim Krul after he was left out of the squad for their pre-season trip to Ireland.

Manager Rafael Benitez selected 27 players to spend the week at a training camp, but Krul was not included.

The Dutchman has been a Newcastle player for the past 11 years, but he has not featured in a competitive game for the Magpies since 2015.

After suffering cruciate ligament damage while on international duty two years ago, Krul was out for a lengthy spell.

In order to get some much-needed game time, the 29-year-old was loaned to Ajax and then AZ.

Competition for places was expected to be high for Krul, but now there are concerns that he might not be part of the squad for the Premier League season.

Benitez opted to include Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman for the 2-1 friendly win over Hearts on Friday night.

After it became clear that Krul had not travelled to Ireland, fans began to wonder where his future lies.
