Newcastle United fans not buying Jordan Pickford story

Newcastle United fans are not convinced that interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is genuine.

Over the weekend, The Sun reported that Magpies manager Rafael Benitez is eyeing a swoop for the England Under-21 international.

The publication claimed that the North-East outfit will offer the 23-year-old a long-term contract worth £75,000 a week upon the club;s return to the Premier League.

Sunderland may find it difficult to keep hold of their shot-stopper now that they have suffered relegation to the Championship, but it would be a shock if they did business with their arch rivals Newcastle.

Everton and West Ham United have also been linked to Pickford, who has started 25 league games for the Black Cats this season.

Interestingly, Pickford, who was born in Washington, claimed in a televised interview with Sky Sports in April claiming that he would “never” follow in Jack Colback’s footsteps and join Newcastle from Sunderland.

The majority of the Magpies’ following believe that there is little truth in the Pickford rumours, while others think that the club should sign him just to make life worse for Sunderland.
