Shola Ameobi is quite the fan favourite at Newcastle United due to his 14 years of service in the first team.

The former Nigeria international's time at the North-East outfit stretches back to 1995 when he was taken on by the club's academy.

Ameobi made his senior debut five years later against Chelsea and in that season he made 22 appearances.

In total, the striker made 396 outings for the Magpies in all competitions and scored 79 goals during his time at St James' Park.

The love affair with Ameobi was sometimes a testing one as he struggled for consistency and he eventually walked away from Newcastle in 2014.

From that point on, the forward had spells at Turkish outfit Gaziantep BB, Crystal Palace, Bolton Wanderers, Fleetwood Town and Notts County, where he currently plays.

So far this season, Ameobi has made eight appearances in League Two and is yet to find the back of the net.

Today, the forward celebrates turning 36, and Newcastle, as well as the fans, decided to send their well-wishes.
