Newcastle United suffered their third defeat away from home in the Premier League this season when they were beaten 1-0 by Burnley at Turf Moor on Monday night, and Magpies fans weren’t impressed with the performance of the Mo Diame.
The 30-year-old was handed his first top flight start of the campaign having played just 71 minutes previously in six appearances from the substitutes’ bench, but he was largely anonymous in the middle of the park alongside Jonjo Shelvey.
With Rafa Benitez’s men chasing an equaliser following Jeff Hendrick’s 74th minute goal for the hosts, the former Senegal international was replaced by striker Dwight Gayle in the 83rd minute having failed to make an impression at either end of the pitch.
Newcastle supporters were quick to have their say on his showing via social media, and while some believe that outcast “Jack Colback is better”, others believe he should “never play” again.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
#nufc The game was poor, Diame starting when he shouldn't even be in the squad & dropping Mitrovic again! Answers please Rafa

Rafa will know what are deficiencies are up front but, Diame? Poor man's Sissoko #nufc

Worst performance in a while from a player in Black&White. How Diame gets on that pitch baffles me. Starting line up questionable #nufc

Jack Colback is better than Mo Diame. #NUFC

Tonights thoughts – Perez should never start. Mitro needs to be given a chance. Lejeune is class. Diame is even worse than Sissoko. #nufc

We were terrible tonight, didn't deserve anything from that game.

How Diame stayed on longer than Perez is beyond me. Offered absolutely nothing apart from a headache tonight. ? #NUFC

Hopefully that game will be the last Diame starts for #nufc he slows play down & touch is terrible Merino or Hayden for me all day!

Diame is simply not good enough for PL.
Merino was greatly missed but Joselu & Perez missed too many chances & we were punished for it#NUFC

What did we learn tonight, nothing we didn’t already know unfortunately, a striker & a new number 10. Never play Diame & a new keeper #nufc
