Newcastle United summer signing Jacob Murphy was handed his first Premier League start for the club in their 1-0 win against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Sunday, but Magpies fans were unimpressed with his performance despite the victory.

The 22-year-old cost £12m when he joined from Norwich City in July and he started on the left-hand side of the three players behind Joselu up top, but struggled to make an impact on the match before being replaced by Christian Atsu in the 59th minute.

Jamaal Lascelles scored the winner for Rafa Benitez’s side 14 minutes from time with a thumping header from a Matt Ritchie corner, as the team picked up their second successive three points and clean sheet.

Newcastle supporters were quick to have their say on Murphy’s showing via social media, and while some questioned whether he was worth his £12m price tag, others thought that he was "out of his depth" against the Swans.
