Like plenty of football fans, Match of the Day host Gary Lineker watched Sunday’s Premier League action, which kicked off with a clash between Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.
The first weekend of the new season threw up some surprise results, but one that would have been expected was Spurs’ 2-0 victory.
Last season’s runners-up managed to comfortably get their campaign off to a winning start thanks to goals from Dele Alli and Ben Davies.
In less than three years, Alli has become an integral member of the Tottenham first team, and in that time has been named PFA Young Player of the Year twice.
The 21-year-old indicated that he intends to continue that dominance following his goalscoring display at the weekend.
In the 2016-17 campaign, Alli scored 18 goals in the top flight to help Mauricio Pochettino’s side finish second, and given that he has already got off the mark, there could be many more to come.
Lineker seems to think so, as he tweeted:
The movement of @Dele_Alli is exemplary and way beyond his years. Will score bundles of goals in his career.
