Rangers suffered one of their worst defeats abroad after being knocked out of the Europa League at the qualifying stage by Luxembourg minnows Progres Niederkorn.

It was a huge shock, not only to the Scottish club's fans, but to supporters of all clubs.

As expected, the reaction to the humiliating result on Twitter was not very forgiving.

It was the first test of the new season for Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha, and unfortunately, he did not pass.

The first leg ended in a slender 1-0 win at Ibrox, but the team were unable to build upon that for the reverse fixture as they ended up losing 2-0 on the night.

If failing to get past the first Europa League qualifier was not bad enough, Rangers' opponents had never before won a European match, and they had only scored once in their last 13 outings.

Once the final whistle blew, floods of messages descended onto Twitter, with plenty of Rangers fans angry, while other football supporters took the opportunity to mock.
