As reported by The Daily Mail, Barrie McKay’s future at Rangers is in doubt after he was sent to train with the U20s side this week by manager Pedro Caixinha.
With just 12 months left on his contract at the Light Blues, the report says that he rejected a pay rise and a contract extension in February and with compromise in sight was told to train with the development squad on Monday.
He’s not the first player to have been subjected to this treatment by Caixinha since he arrived at the club with the Portuguese not afraid to lay down the law with players he feels aren’t showing full commitment to his goals and ambitions.
Barrie McKay has long has big potential at Ibrox and in glimpses has shown real ability in the Scottish Championship and Premiership. However, last season wasn’t his best and since the turn of the year he’s been inconsistent in a Light Blues shirt.
He’s always been a popular figure with supporters but it appears that fans are ready to back their manager rather than the player in this scenario.
Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
Doesn't have the right attitude for me. Lacks the fight required to take Rangers back to the top

A big fan of Pedro's ruthless streak with players that won't be in his plans next season. https://t.co/mhLhr3tj4j

Barrie McKay is off then. Shame his attitude was sticking cause he had all the talent and potential

Barrie McKay has a heart the size of a peanut & a stinking attitude as well. For me he will not be missed

I really thought Barrie McKay would be indispensable for @RangersFC by now but he hasn't performed well for a long, long time.

Barrie McKay strikes me as the kinda guy that thinks he's made it. A Templeton type.

Barrie McKay has all the attributes and ability to be a quality footballer, just needs the heart and ambition to go with it.

Shame he lacks any sort of passion to be a footballer. Happy to have the perks of the job not willing to put any effort in.
