It’s a move that’s been in the offing for months now and doesn’t really come as any surprise to supporters, although the club say their preference was for them to retain his talent.
The statement on the club’s official website says that they’ve tried to maximise the best value in the situation, given the player’s desire to try his luck in the English Premier League.
Fans were hoping to see the 15 year old make his debut at some point in the future but will now see the young academy player ply his trade elsewhere.
Many supporters are sceptical the move will work out for the teenager, believing he will get lost in the Chelsea system and end up playing for teams of a much lower standard.
They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
Excited to see Gilmour playing for Hamilton in 10 years after about 6 loan spells in League 1 and Holland.
