Reina’s agent pours cold water on deal, Newcastle United fans react

Some Newcastle United fans have been left feeling frustrated after Pepe Reina’s agent seemed to rule out a move to St James’ Park.

Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri set tongues wagging when he tweeted that personal terms between the Napoli goalkeeper and the Magpies had been agreed.

He added that Reina was still undecided about making the move, and now his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has rejected rumours of a transfer.

The Chronicle reports Reina’s representative as saying that his client will stay at Napoli until the end of his contract in 2018.

Of course, that does not always mean that the deal will not come to fruition, but at the moment it looks as though Newcastle will not be unveiling the Spaniard this summer.

The speculation was strengthened by the fact that Benitez is well aware of Reina’s qualities having coached him for five years during the pair’s time together at Liverpool.

Fans have been tweeting their reaction to the latest twist.
