Diafra Sakho has made just seven substitute appearances in all competitions this season for West Ham United, but he has managed to get himself a call-up to the Senegal squad.
The forward has not featured for his nation in two years, but now he will be part of the setup for a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde Islands.
Sakho, who has been at West Ham for the past three years, was embroiled in a bizarre story on transfer deadline day last month.
The London Evening Standard claims that the 27-year-old tied to instigate a £9m move to Rennes, but it ultimately failed.
The publication reports that Sakho travelled to France to undergo a medical without permission, and later that week failed to turn up for training.
It is believed that the attacking player went to Chelmsford racecourse with his agent Mark McKay, whose horse was running, before meeting manager Slaven Bilic.
After hearing that Sakho has been called up for international duty, there was a mixed response from West Ham fans; some poked fun at his deadline-day failure, while others expect him to return injured.
