Southampton announced on Saturday that they had signed Lech Poznan centre-back Jan Bednarek on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 21-year-old moves to St Mary’s and becomes Mauricio Pellegrino’s first signing since he was appointed as Claude Puel’s successor last month, and the south coast outfit’s first addition of the summer.

Despite his tender years, Bednarek was a regular in the Lech Poznan backline last season and helped the Polish top flight side to a third-place finish.

The Poland Under-21 international featured for his country at the recent European Under-21 Championships, and he received two quick-fire bookings and gave away a penalty as he was dismissed in the 3-0 defeat to England.

Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the arrival of the young defender via social media, and the majority are excited about his potential and they are looking forward to seeing him on the pitch.
