Southampton’s official Twitter account posted a video of Charlie Austin scoring an impressive goal in training on Tuesday, and Saints fans want the striker to start in their next Premier League clash against Newcastle United at St Mary’s on October 15.
Despite being the south coast outfit’s top scorer in all competitions last season with nine goals to his name – even though he missed a huge chunk of the campaign with a shoulder injury – the centre-forward has found game time hard to come by under Mauricio Pellegrino this term with Manolo Gabbiadini and Shane Long preferred up top.
The 28-year-old has played just 61 minutes of Premier League football and has been restricted to substitute appearances, even though the club has failed to find the net in four of their seven top flight fixtures.
Southampton supporters were quick to have their say on the video via social media, with many simply saying that “he has to start against Newcastle”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Needs to play the next 4 games along with Boufal and Gabi. The others had there chance and not delivered.
