Tottenham Hotpsur’s season at Wembley Stadium didn’t get off to the best start on Sunday after suffering defeat to title rivals Chelsea.
The Blues ran out 2-1 winners after a Marcos Alonso double left the home fans stunned and searching for answers on how they didn’t manage to get at least a draw out of the fixture.
Alonso’s stunning first half free-kick put Spurs on the back foot but their pressure finally paid off in the second half when a Christian Eriksen free-kick was turned into the net by Chelsea sub Michy Batshuayi.
However, Alonso would break Spurs hearts with a smart finish underneath Hugo Lloris.
The build-up to the goal saw a calamity of errors with Lloris throwing too quickly, Victor Wanyama failing to control the ball and then the goalkeeper again making an error in not stopping Alonso’s effort at his near post.
Spurs fans were left raging with the mistakes and took to Twitter to share their thoughts on it all…
Wembley wasn't responsible for Wanyama's sloppiness and Hugo's inability to save a tame effort. Margins. We'll be just fine. #THFC

Wanyama awful in possession today. Loris' risk taking has also been worrying of late. Matter of time before one of them got punished. #thfc

I love Wanyama, but he was off today. If Lloris had held on to that ball a bit longer this would have been a draw. #THFC

Lloris and Wanyama at fault twice each for Chelsea winner. Fair to say Lloris doesn't make first one then VW doesn't make first one #thfc

Wanyama had a mare today. Unforgivable mistake for their winner, which Lloris should've saved with his feet! #THFC
