Spurs fans were delighted with the impact of Ben Davies on Sunday

Tottenham Hotspur started their English Premier League campaign in typical winning fashion on Sunday with a comfortable 2-0 victory away to Newcastle United.

Dele Alli and Ben Davies were the goalscorers on the afternoon, eventually making the breakthrough after a dogged Newcastle were let down by captain Jonjo Shelvey, who was sent off early in the second half for a stamp on Alli.

In a week when Danny Rose made the headlines with severe criticisms of the club, it seemed fitting that it would be his replacement in the team, Ben Davies, that would pick up a vital goal.

His performance was excellent throughout the match, as was the showing of young Kyle Walker-Peters, both demonstrating that perhaps the full-back troubles at Spurs have been overstated this summer.

If Davies keeps this up then Rose may find it tougher to get back into the first team as quickly as he’d like.

Fans were quick to praise the left-back for his goal and his performance in general and took to Twitter to share their thoughts…
