John Stones was the talk of Twitter during a frankly bonkers game of football between Manchester City and Monaco in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
A match that witnessed eight goals, a missed penalty and a spot-kick that was never given resulted in City coming away with a 5-3 win at the Etihad Stadium.
It looked dire at one point for Pep Guardiola’s side as they were 3-2 down, but they fought back to take a two-goal advantage heading into the last-16 second leg across the channel.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark, but Radamel Falcao and 18-year-old Kylian Mbappe nudged Monaco ahead in the first half.
After the break an inspired performance from Sergio Aguero resulted in a 2-2 equaliser, but later Falcao redeemed himself after fluffing his penalty by sending the ball over the top of goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
Stones was at fault as he struggled to keep up with the former Manchester United and Chelsea loan player, but he made up for his failings by scoring at the other end.
Leroy Sane wrapped it up for City by netting in the 82nd minute and giving his team a decent advantage in the tie.
As expected, Stones was ripped on Twitter for his performance at the back, with some fans saying:
