Dimitri Payet’s protracted saga with West Ham United this month will certainly go down as the story of the January transfer window, with the Frenchman quickly going from hero to zero in East London.
Having decided he wanted to leave, the 29-year-old refused to play for the Hammers and West Ham initially said they wouldn’t sell. In the end, they decided it would be in their best interests to approve a sale and Payet returned to Marseille this weekend.
Fans were pleased to see the back of him in the end but will still be frustrated with the series of events, which is summed-up perfectly by one tweet from Jack Sullivan, son of chairman David Sullivan.

Posting a picture of Dimitri Payet celebrating two West Ham goals and two snakes doing snake things, Sullivan’s tweet perfectly captured the feeling of the Hammers faithful and the bridges have well and truly be burned.
