Celtic announced on Wednesday that they'd appointed a new Head of Recruitment at the club, former Sunderland Sporting Director Lee Congerton.

Congerton has a lot of experience in the industry, previously working at the likes of Chelsea, Hamburg, Sunderland and the Welsh FA. On paper it looks like a sound addition to the staff at Celtic.

Manager Brendan Rodgers is certainly a happy man.

As quoted by the official Celtic website, he said:

It is great news that we have been able to bring someone of Lee's calibre to Celtic. He brings knowledge, experience and excellence to such an important area of our work and I know he will add real value to the club.

That endorsement has ensured that Celtic supporters are generally positive about the appointment, hoping that it ushers in a new era of excellent transfers at the club after key recruiter John Park left the Glasgow side last year. It's a sign that Rodgers is getting in the personnel he wants.

However, Sunderland fans have a different view of it.

Congerton's time at Sunderland is a sore point with some Black Cats fans still it seems, after what they perceive as poor recruitment at the club in recent seasons, and they've taken to Twitter to sound words of warning to Celtic about the appointment...
