Tottenham Hotspur fans have received a much-needed boost following the news that Jan Vertonghen is likely to return to action this weekend in the FA Cup.

The North London outfit have been licking their wounds after they were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool at Anfield last weekend.

Ahead of tonight's Europa League last-32 tie against Gent, manager Mauricio Pochettino revealed the good news that Vertonghan is closing in on a comeback.

The Belgian defender has missed the last five games with an ankle injury that he picked up during Spurs' 4-0 win over West Bromwich Albion last month.

The clash against Genk has come too soon for the 29-year-old, but he should feature in this weekend's trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The London Evening Standard quotes Pochettino as saying:

"Jan Vertonghen is very well and maybe Sunday he'll be ready to make the starting XI or be on the bench."

Spurs have conceded seven goals in Vertonghen's absence, but they still have the second-best defence in the Premier League having kept 11 clean sheets and conceded 18 goals.

After hearing the news, Spurs fans expressed their joy on Twitter.
