Erik Lamela could make his first Tottenham Hotspur appearance in 12 months when Spurs face bitter rivals West Ham United in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Lamela has not turned out for his English club since October 2016 after struggling to overcome a series of hip problems, which have required surgery.

The Argentine attacker has returned to full-contact training over the last couple of weeks, however, and it is understood that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is strongly considering selecting him for the clash with West Ham.

On Monday, Tottenham's official Twitter account posted images from the club's first training session since beating Liverpool 4-1 in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

It would be fair to say that the club's supporters were excited by the prospect of Lamela's return, with the attacker looking to put his injury problems behind him.

Lamela, who is valued at £22.5m by transfermarkt.co.uk, actually scored 11 times in all competitions during the 2015-16 season, and his return would be like a new signing for the English outfit.
