According to reports in The Times, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld’s contract talks with the club have broken down because of the disagreement over a release clause.
The 28-year-old is already understood have rejected two offers from Spurs already because he knows that if the club chooses to exercise an option of a one-year extension in 2019, then there will be a £25.3m release clause in his contract – something him and his representatives are said to want.
The Belgium international has quickly established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League since moving to White Hart Lane in 2015, and Mauricio Pochettino’s men have the best defensive record in the top flight this term.
Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the latest reports regarding one of their key men via social media, telling the club they must come to some sort of compromise and to tie him down.

@HotspurRelated Shows how far we have come. The media usually wait till June or July before trying to destabilise the club. Got them worried
