Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is set to miss the rest of the season after picking up an ankle injury in the 2-0 win against Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino confirmed on Monday that the 21-year-old “twisted his ankle” during the success against the Clarets – an incident which saw him leave the pitch on a stretcher in the first half.
Winks has enjoyed a breakthrough season with the north London outfit, making 20 Premier League appearances and scoring one goal, as well as providing one assist.
The loss of Winks comes as a further blow to Pochettino, who is already missing the likes of Harry Kane, Erik Lamela and Danny Rose ahead of the trip to Swansea City on Wednesday night.
Spurs are just seven points behind leaders Chelsea following the Blues’ shock home defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend, and they may feel they can still catch Antonio Conte’s men.
Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the Winks update via social media, with many devastated that the youngster had been ruled out for the rest of the campaign.
