Tottenham fans pay tribute to Eriksen following Newcastle match

Tottenham Hotspur made the perfect start to their 2017-18 Premier League campaign on Sunday afternoon – recording a 2-0 victory over newly-promoted Newcastle United.

Ben Davies and Dele Alli scored the goals for Spurs at St James’ Park, but it was yet another impressive team performance from last season’s runners-up.

It would be fair to say that Christian Eriksen’s performance caught the eye of a number of Tottenham supporters, however, with the Denmark international providing two assists and boasting a 91% passing accuracy during a five-star performance.

Eriksen scored 12 times in 48 appearances for Tottenham last season, and is fast closing on 200 appearances for a club that he joined from Dutch giants Ajax in the summer of 2013.

The likes of Harry Kane, Alli and Hugo Lloris often take the headlines for Spurs, but Eriksen is arguably the club’s most important player due to his consistency in terms of goals and assists.

Tottenham’s official Twitter account paid tribute to the attacker on Monday, and as expected, the post brought a strong response from the club’s fanbase.
