Tottenham Hotspur proved they can win at their new Wembley home with a 3-1 victory against Borussia Dortmund in their opening Champions League group game on Wednesday night, and Spurs fans singled out new boy Davinson Sanchez for praise following an impressive performance.

The north London outfit had won on just two of their 12 appearances at the famous stadium since it was rebuilt, but Mauricio Pochettino’s men showed there is no hoodoo as they saw off the Bundesliga giants.

While Son Heung-Min’s fourth-minute opener was followed up by a brace from Harry Kane, a lot of credit must go to the defenders after they kept Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang quiet.

The strong and quick Sanchez was particularly impressive up against the Gabon international, and the 21-year-old centre-back already looks as though he could be a key player for Spurs this season.

Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the Colombia international’s showing via social media, with one describing him as 'the player they wanted Moussa Sissoko to be'.
