Tottenham Hotspur booked their spot in the fourth round of the EFL Cup following a 1-0 win over Barnsley at Wembley on Tuesday night.
It would be fair to say that it was not a classic affair, but Spurs ensured that they would make the next round courtesy of a narrow success on home soil.
Dele Alli came up with the only goal of the match in the 65th minute, with the England international registering his third strike of the 2017-18 campaign.
Alli was one of those criticised following Tottenham’s goalless draw against Swansea City in the Premier League last weekend, with the 21-year-old struggling to inspire his team against the Welsh outfit.
Alli was also criticised after flashing his middle finger while on England duty earlier this month, which has made it a testing time for the former MK Dons youngster.
Tottenham supporters, however, remain fully behind the attacking midfielder, with many taking to Twitter to hail a player that scored 22 times in all competitions last season.
