According to reports in The Independent, Manchester City are said to be increasingly confident that they will sign Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kyle Walker for £40m this summer.

The England international has been linked with a move to Etihad consistently over the last few months, and his future with Spurs was brought into further doubt when he was left on the bench for the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea at Wembley and the final ever north London derby against Arsenal at White Hart Lane.

With Kieran Trippier impressing in his place, Mauricio Pochettino may feel that the time is right to cash in on the 26-year-old, although he won’t be keen to sell to what is likely to be a title rival next season.

Pep Guardiola needs to sign a new right-back after Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna left the club this week, and the Spaniard looks to be closing in on his top target.

Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the rumour via social media, and while some believe it would be a good deal for the club, others are worried what message it could send out to other members of the squad.
