In an interview he has done with French outlet Foot Mercato while on international duty with his country, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Moussa Sissoko has expressed his delight that he stayed at the club over the summer, and Spurs fans are pleased with his progress.

The 28-year-old endured a tough first season with the north London outfit following his £30m move from Newcastle United last summer, failing to find the net and picking up just four assists in 34 appearances in all competitions, and seriously considered leaving at the end of the campaign.

However, he remained and the absences of Victor Wanyama and Mousa Dembele through injury in recent weeks has seen the Frenchman take up more of a central midfield role, and he even scored his first goal for the club in the 4-0 win against Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Sissoko told Foot Mercato: "I thought about it at the end of last season with my agent and we decided that the best thing was to stay here.

"We thought everything was in place for me to flourish at Tottenham. Today, I tell myself, of course, it was the right choice."

Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on his comments via social media, and despite not being the most popular player in the past many are "happy he stayed", with others 'looking forward to seeing what he can do'.
