One of the sewing motifs of life at Tottenham Hotspur over the course of the summer was the recurring image of manager Mauricio Pochettino sat next to one of his key players as they penned a new contract with the club. A social media strategy largely mocked at the time, though it was important those behind the scenes on Hotspur Way secured the long-term futures of their brightest stars.
Still, one of the most obvious absentees from that conveyor belt of new contract and smiling faces was defender Toby Alderweireld, who is yet to put pen to paper in north London. Undoubtedly one of the elite central defenders on the continent, the Belgian forms a formidable rearguard alongside countryman Jan Vertonghen and is a major part of the club’s improvement over the past few seasons.
So, it’s really little surprise to see reports emerge from the London Evening Standard suggesting the former Atletico Madrid star is asking for more from his employers. He’s reportedly asking to be put on a similar wage to the likes of Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris, such is the level of his importance to the Tottenham cause.
With that in mind, here’s a look at how Spurs fans reacted to these reports.
@HotspurRelated give him Lamela's wages on top of his own
