According to an article in the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool have all registered an initial interest in signing £30m-rated Middlesbrough centre-back Ben Gibson.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to bring in a central defender this summer to provide competition for Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld – or as a starter if he decides to go three at the back – and he has already been linked with a move for Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, as well as a £15m swoop for Swansea City’s Alfie Mawson.

Despite suffering relegation from the Premier League last season, Boro want £30m to prise their captain away from the Riverside which could prove to be a sticking point for any of the interested parties.

Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the link via social media, with some less than impressed that they are lining up a move for a “mediocre” player, while others would prefer the north London outfit to sign Mawson for a lower fee.
