According to reports in the Daily Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur are set offer right-back Kieran Trippier a new five-year deal with the future of Kyle Walker still uncertain.
The Daily Telegraph says that Manchester City are interested in bringing the 27-year-old to the Etihad, but that negotiations have proven to be difficult with Spurs demanding £50m for the England international.
Trippier filled in for Walker on a number of occasions towards the end of last season – starting in the FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea and the final ever north London derby at White Hart Lane – and Mauricio Pochettino is obviously keen to tie the 26-year-old down to a new deal before considering selling his fellow right-back.
Tottenham supporters were quick to have their say on the news of the contract offer via social media, and while some thought it was deserved, others are worried Trippier isn’t the right long-term replacement for Walker if he does move to City this summer.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Walker better tho

He's good but not near as good as Walker.

We'll miss Walkers pace ?. We need more pace in the squad.

Anyone who genuinely believes that Trippier is good enough to replace Walker are the same who will be moaning when we fail in UCL and prem.

Trippier signing a new contract is almost an insurance deal so we defo have a decent right back. Think the Walker saga will drag and drag

As much as I like the bloke, if Kieran Trippier becomes our first choice right back next season we would have taken a huge step backwards.

Imagine thinking Kyle Walker going is a bad thing, Kieran Trippier is so much better.
