Ledley King was a brilliant footballer, but chronic knee problems meant that the centre-back was unable to fulfil his full potential at Tottenham Hotspur.

King made 321 appearances for Tottenham between 1999 and 2012, before being forced to retire due to a succession of knee injuries, which plagued the latter stages of his career.

Indeed, former Spurs manager Harry Redknapp once branded King 'an absolute freak' for being able to play in the Premier League despite not training throughout the week.

The former England international turned 37 on Thursday, and as expected, Tottenham's official Twitter account paid tribute to 'one of their own'.

King continues to represent the London club as an ambassador, and it would be fair to say that he remains an extremely popular figure with the Tottenham supporters.

The phrase 'he could play a bit' is certainly correct when it comes to King, and despite knee problems plaguing the latter stages of his career, he is still remembered fondly by the Spurs fans.
