Jermain Defoe is still scoring goals at the top level of English football.

The striker managed 15 Premier League goals for Sunderland during the 2016-17 campaign, and has netted once in seven league games for Bournemouth during the early stages of this season.

He turned 35 on Saturday, and former club Tottenham Hotspur were quick to pay tribute to the England international, who represented the London club during two separate spells.

The forward managed 64 goals in 177 appearances for Spurs during his first spell at the club between 2004 and 2008, before netting 79 times in 186 appearances between 2009 and 2014.

Since leaving Tottenham, Defoe has had spells at Toronto and Sunderland, before joining Bournemouth on a free transfer during the summer window.

It is not often that a former West Ham United player proves a popular figure with the Tottenham fans, but Defoe is the exception to the rule. Whatever happens from this point forward, he will be remembered as a brilliant goalscorer for the London club.
