United supporters pay tribute to £9m-rated star

Antonio Valencia struggled to make it as a right midfielder at Manchester United due to his lack of goals and inconsistency when it came to crossing the ball.

The 32-year-old reinvented himself as a defender, and has since become arguably the best right-back in the Premier League.

Valencia also now wears the captain’s armband for United due to Michael Carrick’s non-involvement, and it would be fair to say that the Ecuador international is one of Jose Mourinho’s untouchables at Old Trafford.

Valencia’s defensive abilities will again be tested this weekend when United travel to bitter rivals Liverpool in the Premier League.

On Thursday, United’s official Twitter account posted a video of the former midfielder, who is valued at £9m by transfermarkt.co.uk, making a stunning last-ditch challenge during last season’s goalless draw at Anfield.

The tweet, as expected, saw a number of the club’s supporters respond, and the vast majority were keen to pay tribute to their stand-in captain.
