Villa supporters blast team following EFL Cup exit

Aston Villa were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Middlesbrough on Tuesday night after suffering a 2-0 defeat to their Championship rivals at Villa Park.

Villa entered the League Cup fixture off the back of a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Barnsley at the weekend, which eased the pressure on under-fire head coach Steve Bruce.

The team were brought crashing back down to earth on Tuesday, however, as a second-half double from Patrick Bamford saw Middlesbrough book their spot in the fourth round of the competition.

Villa also had Tommy Elphick sent off on what was a rotten night for the club, with just under 12,000 supporters turning up to watch the mid-week fixture.

After the match, Villa’s official Twitter account looked to put a positive spin on the result, revealing that the team had a late penalty appeal turned down, in addition to missing some opportunities to find the back of the net.

However, the club’s supporters were not interested in excuses following another poor show.
