Gareth Barry became the Premier League’s all-time leading appearance marker on Monday night when he turned out for West Bromwich Albion against Arsenal.
The veteran midfielder has now made 633 appearances in the Premier League, which has taken him past Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs to the top of the list.
The 36-year-old has posted the record-breaking number following spells at Aston Villa, Manchester City, Everton and now West Brom, who he joined during the summer transfer window.
A large chunk of those appearances came during his time at Villa, however, with Barry appearing in 365 Premier League matches for the now Championship club between 1997 and 2009.
There are still some Villa supporters that have not forgiven Barry for leaving the club for Man City in the summer of 2009, but the large majority see the experienced midfielder as a club legend.
Indeed, it did not come as a surprise when Villa posted their own tribute to Barry on Monday night, and a number of supporters were quick to praise the former England international.
Well done, Gareth Barry. Premier League appearance record – 6⃣3⃣3⃣
