Aston Villa forward Scott Hogan was called into the Republic of Ireland squad for the first time for their upcoming 2018 World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Wales.

The 25-year-old was born in Salford, but qualifies for ROI through his father, and could make his debut for the national team against Moldova on Friday night.

Hogan has not scored in 10 Championship appearances for Villa this season, but he has managed three goals in the EFL Cup, and it would be fair to say that the forward is still a popular figure with the Villa supporters.

On Tuesday, Hogan posted an image of himself in action during a Republic of Ireland training session, and Championship club Villa retweeted the post in a show of support to their player, who only has one assist to his name this season.

The club's fanbase were also out in force to wish Hogan luck as the forward looks to make an impression over the next week.
