Walkes extends Tottenham Hotspur contract, fans react

Anton Walkes may not currently be playing his football at Tottenham Hotspur, but he has extended his stay at the North London club.

The 20-year-old, who can play at right-back or in the centre of defence, has been part of Spurs’ academy since 2013.

The Englishman is currently on loan at Major Soccer League club Atlanta United, and has been in the United States since January.

The youngster is getting some much-needed minutes under his belt by making 17 MLS appearances, and he has even contributed with two goals.

It seems that Tottenham have been impressed with his progress as they have offered him a new contract, which will run until 2019.

Despite this, it will be difficult for Walkes to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s team given the strength that the Argentine possesses in the right-back areas.

Serge Aurier, Kieran Trippier and Kyle Walker-Peters are vying for that spot, while Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen are first-choice centre-backs.

Upon hearing the news, plenty of Tottenham fans expressed their joy for Walkes, while others were more concerned with other players’ contract situations.
